Homemade potato pie is always welcome in every home and always a welcome addition to an evening cup of tea for children and adults alike. Here is my recipe for herring and potato pie.

Ingredients for homemade pie with herring and potatoes:

  • Milk - 1 glass
  • Chicken Egg - 1 pc
  • Sugar - 1,5 tablespoon
  • Salt (We will use salt to make dough, to season fish and potatoes) - 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil (We use this oil for pasta and onion searing).) - 1 tablespoon
  • Melted butter (We use melted butter in the dough, and a piece of butter to butter the ready pie.) - 2 tablespoon
  • Yeast (A small bag of granulated yeast.) - 7 g
  • Wheat flour / Flour (You may need 3 to 3.5 cups of flour.) - 3,5 g
  • Fish (I didn't use a big 12-15 cm. herring.) - 9 pcs
  • Potatoes (Medium sized potatoes.) - 2 pcs
  • Black pepper (You can add pepper to taste) - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Dill (Fresh dill greens) - 1 bunch.
  • Onions (Medium onion) - 1 pc

How to cook homemade herring and potato pie step by step with photos

Add two tablespoons of melted butter to the milk. Add a tablespoon of vegetable oil.

Add sugar (1.5 tbsp. Spoon, egg and yeast, then add salt. Stir the mixture well, then add a small amount of flour. Cover a container with a towel with the mixture and put it in a warm place for fermentation.

After a while small bubbles will appear on the stew. The stew is ready

Add the rest of the flour to the stew.

Knead the dough. Cover the container with a lid or a towel and put it in a warm place to rise. After a while the dough will rise sufficiently well, knead it and leave it to rise again. Afterwards we can proceed to cutting the pie.

Preparing the filling. Cut onion in half rings.

Add oil to a frying pan, put the onions in it. Saute until a nice golden crust.

Boil potatoes, cut into slices.

Finely chop fresh dill greens.

Divide the ready dough into two parts. Roll out one part into a layer. The thickness of the layer is approximately.0,5-0,7 mm.

Cut out the desired shape of a pie from the dough (I decided to make my pie in the shape of a fish). Place the pastry on a baking sheet, greased with vegetable oil. Lay a layer of boiled potatoes. If necessary, the potatoes can be salted and peppered to taste.

Place herring carcasses on top of potatoes. Salt and pepper the fish to taste.

Place a layer of fried onions.

Add chopped dill herbs.

Roll out the second piece of dough, cut out the grid iron.

Spread the slices of dough on the pie plate.

Roll out the rest of the pastry and cut out strips.

Make incisions with a knife.

Decorate "with spikelets and strips" The future pie.

Let the cake proof for 10-15 minutes. Then brush the pie with beaten egg and put it in the oven to bake. Coat the ready pie, while it is still hot, with a piece of butter.
