  • Milk - 250 ml
  • Yeast (or live 20g) - 1 pack.
  • Sugar - 4 tablespoon
  • Eggs - 1 pc
  • Sour cream - 2 tablespoon
  • Salt - 0.5 teaspoon
  • Butter - 50 g
  • Vegetable oil - 60 ml
  • Wheat flour / Flour - 600/700 g


  • Mac - 250 g
  • Sugar - 250 ml
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Milk - 350 ml
  • semolina - 50 g

How to cook poppy seed cake "lace" step by step with photos

1. Flour 500g. mix with yeast (this time I had dry yeast, but it is better to take live yeast, then the dough is better), add sugar and salt. If you have live yeast, then first heat the milk and melt the yeast in it, and then add all the liquid ingredients to this mixture, and finally the flour, first 600 grams, and then another 100 grams. in batches.

2. Add eggs, sour cream, melted butter, vegetable butter, warm milk, and then add the flour mixture one by one.

3. Mix everything with a mixer.

4. At the end we add 100g more. flour and knead the dough by hand. During the process, if needed, add 50 grams of flour. a couple of times. In general you don't need more than 700 gr. of flour. The dough should have a nice touch and not be too stiffly kneaded. The dough is to be covered with a towel and left in a warm place for 30 minutes!!! (this is a must.). Knead the dough a little after half an hour and leave it to rest in a warm place for half an hour more.

5. While the dough is heating up, prepare the filling. Pour about 100 ml of boiling water over the poppy seeds and cover with a lid.

6. Then pour all the water through a sieve. If a little water remains, it's okay.

7. Add the sugar to the poppy seeds and mix thoroughly.

8. Then pour about 350 ml of milk over the poppy seeds, so that the milk just covers the poppy seeds and put it on the fire. Do not go too far from the stove, otherwise the filling may run away.

9. When the mixture begins to boil, add 50-60 grams. semolina and stir thoroughly to avoid lumps. Let the mixture boil for a couple of minutes on low heat and turn off the heat. Let the stuffing cool down.

10. While we are preparing the stuffing the dough has risen and is ready to work. We divide the dough into two parts, i.e. е. We will have 2 rolls, but you can not divide it will be one big and delicious pie. I do it differently. Spread out the pastry on a lightly floured table and roll out into a rectangle.

11. Roll up a roll and cut off a couple of centimeters of the edges., but don't throw them away. We'll need them.
