How to cook onion cake with cabbage and cheese step by step with photos

Making the Filling. The picture shows a comparison of a matchbox of onions that I made for the filling. Pour the oil in a pan, put it on the stove, heat it up and put chopped onions. Fry a little until soft. Don't overcook them, or they won't taste as good. Add chopped white cabbage to onion. Cook until soft. I didn't fry it too much, I made it on a low heat with the lid on. At the end, salt and pepper it. Pepper is not necessary, if there will be children. I peppered it with ground cayenne pepper.

I made the batter at the same time. I heated a little cream, put sugar, a spoonful of cottage cheese and beat 2 eggs. I whisk a little with an electric whisk. You can use a food processor to knead the dough. Add sunflower oil and beat everything again. Combine the flour with baking powder and sift into the mixture. Using a whisk, combine the flour in small portions and add salt. The dough is ready. The consistency is similar to condensed milk.

Stuffing with onions and cabbage is ready. Grate cheese. You can't ruin a pie with cheese, and you can use more of it. I used a D-20 cm wide and 6 cm high cake tin. You can use any shape and diameter you have: silicone; ceramic... I will line my mold with baking paper. Soak the paper in oil a little. Visually divide the dough in half and pour half onto the bottom of the mold. Using a silicone spatula I spread the dough evenly. Sprinkle with half of the grated cheese. Next - a thick layer of onion and cabbage stuffing. Spread out.

Spread cheese again and pour the second half of the dough. Sprinkle a generous amount of sesame seeds on top. Put into oven heated up to 180 C for 40 minutes. Taste on "a dry splinter". The dough does not stick to the splinter so the pie is ready. Be guided by your oven. I have a small electric 18-liter oven, it bakes very fast and well. Let the pie cool for a while.

Take it out of the mold.

Slice and serve.

This is the pie in section. Delicious thin dough, lots of filling, flavorful.
