Here's a yeast dough roll pie with roasted cabbage and bacon. This pie is excellent as a main course for a dinner table or as a substitute for a full dinner. Very good as a snack. My husband calls it a "as a weeknight snack pie", Because we rarely go a weekend without it. Delicious and hearty, beautiful and appetizing. It's easy to make. Ingredients for roasted cabbage roll pie:


  • Wheat flour / Flour (+-20 g) - 300 g
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Milk - 50 ml
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Yeast (dried quick-acting, 1 teaspoon without the spoonful) - 1 teaspoon


  • White cabbage / Cabbage - 500 g
  • Bacon (uncooked) - 100 g
  • Carrots - 1 pc
  • Onion - 1 pc
  • Vegetable oil - 5 tablespoon
  • Sweet paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste


  • Mac (optional)
  • Sesame (optional)
  • Milk - 1 tablespoon

How to cook fried cabbage roll pie step by step with photos

Sift flour. Add milk, water, salt, sugar, oil and yeast. Knead the dough. (It may take a little more or a little less flour, so do not add all at once)

The dough comes out soft, delicate and not stiff. Place the dough in a bowl greased with vegetable oil, cover with clingfilm and leave in a warm place to rise for 45-50 minutes.

Meanwhile prepare stuffing. Cut the cabbage into thin julienne strips. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan (4 Tbsp. L) and put the cabbage in it. Fry the cabbage over a fairly high heat, stirring to prevent it from burning. Leave the lid on.

While the cabbage is sautéing, in another frying pan fry in oil (1 tbsp. L) finely chopped onion and coarsely grated carrot until soft.

Before the vegetables are ready, add chopped bacon into small pieces to the frying pan. Stir it in at .

The cabbage is ready.

Add fried onions, carrots and bacon to the kale, season with paprika (ideally smoked paprika, but sweet paprika will work too) and mix the filling well. Taste it for salt and add more salt if needed. (Bacon is pretty salty, so be careful with the salt)

The dough is ready.

Spread out the dough on a floured work surface and knead it. Roll out the dough into a 0.5 cm thick layer. Spread the filling evenly on the dough, 3 to 4 cm from the edge.

Wrap edges of dough inside.

Gently roll up the roll.

Put it with the seam side down on a baking tray lined with parchment. (grease the paper with vegetable oil) Let the roll stand for 10-15 minutes, let it "let it rest". Then grease the surface with milk.

Sprinkle poppy seeds and sesame seeds on top of the loaf. (as desired, of course) And for the sesame and poppy seeds to fall off the ready roll, spray the roll with water over the seeds using a sprayer.

Bake the roll in a preheated 180° oven for 35-40 minutes until brown. (use your technique as a guide)

When ready put the roll on a rack and cool it a bit. All done!
