Francesinha is a Portuguese dish. Main habitat is in the region of Porto. Francesinya could be conventionally called a big sandwich consisting of different kinds of sausages and meat, covered with cheese and lavishly covered with unique sauce. But it's not that easy. The Portuguese themselves consider their "francesinha" not as a sandwich, but as a full, hearty main course.
And it's quite difficult to find it anywhere in the south or in Lisbon. But in Porto it is on the contrary - on every corner, in every restaurant, or even in narrowly-specialized franchise restaurants.
The dish itself is quite young. It was invented in 1953 by a chef returning from France, who tried to adapt to local tastes his favorite croque-monsieur. Francesinha, which translates to "little Frenchwoman". But Francesinha became famous a little later.
At the moment, the restaurant where the first franchise was made still exists and feels great. But at the same time there are many other places, each with their own unique sauce recipe. The sauce itself is the most important thing in this dish. The bread, the meat, it's all there. But that's what the restaurant makes its sauce from - that's the secret. So from restaurant to restaurant, the flavors of the francaisee can vary greatly. And many residents often have their favorite places with the only correct francesin.
