Fra Diavolo literally means "devil brother", It became a culinary term for a special kind of food. A sauce used especially in combination with seafood. In different countries you can find "Devil's food", characterized by its distinctive color, taste, often spicy, sometimes sweet, "introducing the sin". :-) According to some sources, this red sauce was named after Michele Pezza (1771-1806), a Neapolitan leader who defended the city from Napoleon's invasion. ) It was legendary. His name the French were afraid to say out loud, it was called Fra Diavolo and only in a whisper.. ; -)
