Ingredients for Christmas snack "Christmas trees":


  • Kidneys (beef) - 400 g
  • Potatoes - 7 pcs
  • Onions - 3 pcs
  • Hard cheese - 200 g
  • Chicken egg - 1 pc
  • Butter - 100 g
  • Sweet pepper (yellow) - 1 pc
  • Liquid smoke - 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 teaspoon
  • Seasoning (for barbecue) - 1 tablepoon
  • Greens (parsley and dill) - 1 bunch.
  • Vinegar (apple) - 1 teaspoon
  • Red Dry Wine (I have homemade, grape) - 0.5 glass
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Wheat flour / Flour - 100 g
  • Black pepper (ground, to taste)

How to cook Christmas snack "Christmas trees" step by step with photos


You're going to say, "yuck, kidneys..." But in vain..Such cooked kidneys are very tender, fragrant, with shish kebab taste...in a word...Mmm...delicious. The process is certainly a long, but it is worth it.I advise to prepare. Wash the beef kidneys and cut into pieces.

Add onions cut in 4 parts, vinegar, salt lightly, pour water and leave for 3-4 hours. Pour the water off, discard the onions, add fresh water, bring to the boil, and pour it off again. Do this 5 times. Add red wine together with water for the last time and simmer for 20 minutes. Then drain the water, salt and pepper it, add the liquid smoke, chopped onion, kebab seasoning, sprinkle with lemon juice and mix well, leave for 1 hour to marinate.

Make potato lumps: grate potatoes on a coarse grater, squeeze, salt, pepper, add egg, flour and mix everything. Make tortillas of this stuffing, lay them on a greased baking tray and bake in a preheated oven for 20 minutes. When the potatoes are ready, do not turn off the oven - we will still need it. While the flatbreads are cooking we fry pickled kidneys in butter until they start to brown.

Now put fried kidneys on each potato flatbread and sprinkle with chopped bell peppers.

Sprinkle grated cheese on top of peppers and put in oven until cheese bakes.

When the cheese is melted and browned, take the tray out of the oven and put our on a platter.

Sprinkle them with chopped greens. Cut little herringbones out of the cheese.

Coat herringbones lightly with butter and roll in greenery. Using a toothpick them on potato bumps. The result is delicious, festive, with an unusual filling and new, not "beaten up" dish.
