Ingredients for herring in white marinade:

  • Herring (peel and cut off the heads) - 1 kg
  • Vinegar (3% + a glass of water to the same. You can adjust the spiciness) - 1 glass
  • Onions (cut a large onion into rings) - 1 pc
  • Carrots (thinly slice into circles) - 2 pcs
  • Sugar - 1 tablepoon
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Black pepper (peas and allspice 3 pieces) - 7 units
  • Bay leaf - 4 units

How to cook herring in white marinade step by step with photos

Remove the heads and innards from the herring. Batter in flour with salt. Fry

Boil the marinade. Mix water, vinegar and spices (bay leaf, pepper, onion, carrot), salt and sugar. Boil until onions become translucent over low heat under a lid. Pour this marinade (cooled down) over the fried fish and let it marinate for... 24 hours... two. I don't let it sit that long - it gets eaten up fast.
