Cod Poor Man's Fish

Fish " poor fish" In the olden days cod was called the poor man's fish in Latvia. Don't laugh and throw your thumbs at me. Despite its apparent simplicity and unpretentiousness, it's really delicious! In the not too well-fed post-war years, it was not considered shameful to serve this dish even for a feast...

How to cook cod "poor fish" step by step with photos

Boil the cod. In order to save money, since we have fish "of the poor", I used leftover fish from cooking "Fish Salad". The fish in this recipe is only slightly salted. You can also boil the whole fish, but keep in mind that there is already enough salt in the mayonnaise with which you serve the fish. |
Remove the bones from the fish carefully, put it on a plate, brush with mayonnaise and leave in the refrigerator to soak in. This is the traditional way to serve it. |
If you serve the fish with your favorite salad it would be a good dish for breakfast or dinner. |
If you dislike mayonnaise, the fish can be topped with a sour cream sauce / or natural yogurt / with horseradish, capers and lemon zest to taste. |
