I read this recipe in a 1908 cookbook. I changed it a little bit, though, replacing one ingredient. But even with this little change, it is very good.

Ingredients for stuffing:

  • Herring (about 350g.) - 1 pc
  • Onions - 1 pc
  • Milk - 100 ml
  • Bran (oat bran) - 100 g
  • Olive oil - 1 tablepoon
  • Parsley - to taste
  • Vinegar - 0.5 teaspoon
  • Black pepper (ground) - to taste

How to cook forshmak step by step with photos

To cook the herring, onion, milk, oat bran, olive oil, vinegar, parsley, ground black pepper.

Soak the bran in milk.

Finely chop onion.

Peel herring, remove from bones and finely chop it.

Finely chop parsley. Put all the ingredients together and mix until smooth.

Our dish is ready. You can serve it to your guests.
