Ingredients for herring in a sweet marinade:


  • Herring (A fillet of one salted herring.) - 1 pc
  • Red Onion - 1 pc
  • Cloves - 6 pcs
  • Black pepper (Pea) - 6 units
  • Allspice - 3 pcs
  • Bay leaf - 2 pcs
  • Sugar (With slide.) - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Vinegar (Red, wine vinegar) - 2 tablespoon

How to cook herring in sweet marinade step by step with photos


Put spices, bay leaf and sugar in a saucepan, add water and bring to boil. Turn it off. Then, put in the marinade chopped red onion rings and pour the red wine vinegar. Cover and let cool.

While the marinade is cooling, slice the herring into pieces and put it in a jar.

When the marinade has cooled down, pour it on the herring, put the lid on and leave in the fridge for 24 hours. (p.s. The longer it is, the better it tastes). Enjoy your meal!
