Easy recipe. I used to buy herring rolls like this at the supermarket, so I decided to make them at home. It comes out!!!! I make them with carrots, and there are different variations on the market - with mushrooms, seaweed.

Ingredients for herring roll:


  • Herring (salted, you can use pre-cooked filet) - 1 pc
  • Carrot (medium size) - 2 pcs
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Black pepper (ground) - 1 g
  • Salt (to taste, some people like it more salty - add more salt) - 1 g

How to cook herring roll step by step with photos


Grate carrots, season with salt and pepper, add sugar, add vinegar and leave to marinate. You can take cooked Korean-style carrots. Again, the filling can be seaweed or pickled mushrooms.

While the carrots are marinating, let's take care of the herring. Peel it, remove the backbone, dry it with a napkin.

Start shaping our roll. Put fillet on cling film or foil and put carrots on it.

Wrap the fish in a roll.

And now we wrap the roll tightly in foil. And we put it under the pressure for not less than two hours. I put it overnight.
