Ingredients for herring pickle:


  • Herring (fresh or frozen) - 2 units
  • Salt - 4 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1.5 tablespoon
  • Vinegar (9%) - 80 ml
  • Coriander (seeds) - 1 teaspoon
  • Cloves - 3 pcs
  • Allspice (peas) - 4 units
  • Black pepper (peas) - 0.5 teaspoon
  • Bay leaf - 3 pcs
  • Water - 1 l

How to cook herring pickles step by step with photos


Boil the marinade: put all the ingredients and water in a saucepan and bring to the boil. I had ground coriander and stir until the sugar and salt are dissolved. Let cool completely.

Peel and wash the herring. Put it in the dish in which it's going to be salted.

Pour over the cold marinade and let it stay for 48 hours in the refrigerator, turning it over from time to time.

When the time has passed take it out, clean it and serve! Enjoy!
