The recipe

Ingredients for herring rolls:


  • Greens (parsley and dill)
  • Butter - 1 teaspoon
  • Potatoes - 2 pcs
  • Herring (lightly salted) - 1 pc
  • Red onion - 1 pc
  • Lemon juice - 2 teaspoon

How to cook herring rolls step by step with photos


Fillet herring or buy ready made. Boil and mash potatoes with butter. Add chopped shredded herbs and mix together. I didn't salt potatoes since my herring was a little salty.

Slice red onion into thin slices or half rings. Lightly scald with boiling water and pour lemon juice (1/ 4 lemons), let it marinade for at least 15 minutes.

Place herring fillets on clingfilm or a lined baking mat. Put mashed potatoes on top.

Roll up the potatoes.

Cut the roll into 1 cm thick slices.

Then put it on a plate, and put pickled onions on top. The appetizer is ready!
