Ingredients for home salted herring:


  • Herring (freshly frosted) - 5 units
  • Water - 1,5 l
  • Salt - 180 g
  • Sugar - 90 g
  • Black pepper (peas) - 18 pcs
  • Allspice - 18 pcs
  • Coriander (whole) - 3 teaspoon
  • Bay leaf - 15 pcs

How to cook herring home-salted step by step with photos


Thaw frozen herring, remove scales, remove gills, wash, dry.

Add all the spices in the water and simmer the brine for 7 minutes from the boiling point. Let the brine cool completely.

Put herring in a 3-liter jar and fill with brine. Put in refrigerator. After 24 hours the herring will be ready!
