Ingredients for the hot smoked mackerel mousse:

  • Sour cream - 1 tablespoon
  • Cottage cheese (unsweetened, like Philly, no fillers) - 100 g
  • Mackerel (hot smoked) - 200 g
  • Lemon - 1/2 pc
  • Mustard - 1 teaspoon
  • Chives (or green onions) - 1 bunch.

How to cook hot smoked mackerel mousse step by step with photos

Remove skin and bones from mackerel, check for bones if you use fillets, mousse tastes better without such surprises.

Place fish, cottage cheese, sour cream, mustard, a little lemon zest and the juice of half a lemon in a processor. Grind until smooth.

Add chopped chives, ground pepper, salt and a bit more lemon juice if desired - to taste. Beat well with a spatula, so that the mousse becomes airier. Put into portions or into one large dish and leave in the refrigerator for 2 hours.

The garnish on the photo consists of lettuce, red onion, lemon, pickled onion, cucumber and capers. And, of course, toast. But you can also experiment with it, for example, fill tartlets with mousse, serve with boiled eggs, tomatoes... Bon appetit!
