Lightly salted herring
I very rarely buy ready made herring. I, and my family, prefer homemade herring. Here is a recipe that my mother taught me. Herring is ready in a FAST way and turns out so yummy!.
Ingredients for home salted herring:
- Herring
- Water - 0.5 l
- Salt - 1.5 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1/2 tablespoon
- Vinegar (9%) - 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper (peas) - 10 units
- Bay leaf - 3-4 pcs

Pour water, salt, sugar, vinegar, pepper, bay leaf and boil in a pot. Let the brine cool. |
