  • Radish ( small green) - 1 pc
  • Onions - 1 pc
  • Vegetable oil (IDEAL) - 5 tablespoon
  • Vinegar (6 or 9% or lemon juice) - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar (to taste)
  • Black pepper (to taste)

How to cook herring appetizer old Russian style step by step with photos


Fillet the herring, remove skin and bones. Cut into strips.

Peel and cut the onions into half rings.

Peel and grate the radish or cut it into thin strips.

Make the dressing: whisk oil and vinegar lightly with a fork, add sugar and freshly ground black pepper. Stir and pour the dressing over the appetizer.

Stir the appetizer and let it stand for 30 minutes.
