Ingredients for fish "red":


  • Baltic herring (fresh) - 1 kg
  • Onions - 3 pcs
  • Carrots - 2 pcs
  • Sweet pepper - 2-3 pcs
  • Tomato - 3 pcs
  • Tomato juice - 2 glass
  • Vegetable oil
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Sugar
  • Seasoning (for fish)

How to cook fish "red" step by step with photos


I washed the red herring well, ripped the head off, let the guts out, rinsed everything. It's beautiful...

Since my fish was (as for herring) not a small size, I cut it in half. I added salt, pepper and fish seasoning.

Pour vegetable oil into the cauldron and arrange a layer of onions, chopped in half rings...

A layer of grated carrots on top of the onions.

Next layer - peppers, chopped julienne,...

Then I put fish.

Diced tomatoes on top of the fish. I poured tomato juice over the whole thing (although I added a little water, because the juice was quite thick). Salted, peppered, saccharified and put on stew on low heat... Braised for three and a half hours...

Delicious to the point of being insane, especially when cold!!!
