Ingredients for herring canapés with black currant jam:


  • Herring (lightly salted, filet) - 300 g
  • Bread (Borodinsky) - 1 pc
  • Sour cream (30% fat or cottage cheese) - 200 g
  • Red onion - 0,5 pcs
  • Green onion - 1 bunch.
  • Horseradish (or to taste) - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt (and pepper) - to taste
  • Jam (of black currant)

How to cook herring canapés with black currant jam step by step with photos


Prepare the foods. Fillet herring if necessary or take ready made.

Cut the bread into slices and toast in the oven or toaster.

Chop red and green onions. Chop up 1/3 of the herring into bite-sized pieces.

Mix in a blender the sour cream, two kinds of onions, a spoonful of horseradish and the sliced herring. Add salt and ground black pepper. Lightly whisk.

Spread thin layer of black currant jam on browned bread.

Spread sour cream mixture on top of jam.

Arrange the slices of bread like a "Sandwich". And cut diagonally.

Coat the triangular sandwiches with sour cream, place slices of herring on each one and decorate with chopped greens. Ornamental greens such as watercress salad would work very well here. This is a quick, beautiful, tasty and fun snack!
