This is a Turkish recipe. I don't know the exact Turkish name, but in German it sounds like "Rote Linsen Aufstrich"- A lot of positive feedback from German users (which is pretty rare!!) seduced me into this recipe. We had a lot of fun with this "sandwich spread", I wish you the same!

Ingredients for Lentil Sandwich "butter":


  • Lentils (red) - 150 g
  • Broth (vegetable or chicken) - 300 ml
  • Onions - 1 pc
  • Carrots - 1 pc
  • Garlic - 1-2 clove
  • Yogurt (natural) - 100 ml
  • Olive oil - 4 tablespoon
  • Basil (fresh, sprigs) - 3 pcs
  • Salt
  • Black pepper

How to cook lentil sandwich "butter" step by step with photos


National recipes are undemanding, there is always a very simple set of ingredients... But the cooking technique can give a completely different flavor, it's like boiled rice and risotto!

Cut small carrots and medium-sized onions and garlic into small cubes and sauté everything together in lightly heated olive oil, until transparent.

Add the red lentils and fry everything together until the lentils have absorbed the oil.

Add bouillon in small portions and simmer all together on a medium heat for 10-12 minutes.

Puree with an immersion blender. Let cool slightly.

Season with salt and pepper, add natural yoghurt and finely chopped fresh basil.

Insanely delicious as a standalone mashed potato dish and as a spread on a sandwich! Recommended by!
