I can't bear to throw away stale bread. I make breadcrumbs from it, and here I found an interesting recipe for a delicious and quick breakfast of stale baguette (or loaf). Slices of yesterday's fried fish or chicken would also fit nicely into this sandwich. With this recipe I want to say thanks to Povarenok and TM "Kikkoman" for interesting contests and great prizes.

Ingredients for lost bread:


Sandwich

  • Baguette (stale, or 4 slices of stale loaf) - 1/2 Piece
  • Tomato - 1 pc
  • Green olives - 6 pcs
  • Hard cheese (grated) - 3 tablespoon
  • Fish (fried, or chicken) - 100 g

Filling

  • Chicken egg - 2 pcs
  • Tomato sauce (or ketchup) - 1 tablespoon
  • Cream - 2 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 1 clove
  • Greens (finely chopped, to taste) - 1 tablespoon
  • Spices (salt, pepper mix) - to taste

How to cook lost bread step by step with photos


Cut a stale baguette in half lengthwise (I had half a baguette = 25 cm). You can take slices of loaf (not too thin, about 2 cm thick).

Chop the garlic and herbs finely. Whisk all the ingredients for the sauce. Pour into a bowl to soak the baguette halves in the sauce.

Pour over baguette halves and leave to soak for a few minutes.

Put half of baguette into baking dish, pour remaining sauce on top, sprinkle a little grated cheese.

Spread thinly sliced tomatoes, olives and pieces of fish or chicken over the surface of the baguette.

Sprinkle with the remaining cheese, bake in a preheated 180-degree oven for about 15 minutes (I baked on the middle level of the oven under the grill), not only to melt the cheese, but also to dry the bread.
