Ingredients for Scottish pearl barley soup:

  • Lamb (I have pork) - 200 g
  • Green Onions - 1 bunch.
  • Tomato juice (or 3 tbsp.l. tomato paste) - 150 ml
  • Pearl grits - 100 g
  • Carrots - 2 pcs
  • Potatoes - 4 pcs
  • Salt (pepper to taste)
  • Black pepper (ground, to taste)

How to cook Scottish pearl barley soup step by step with photos

I made it in a cauldron. If you don't have a cauldron, fry the meat in a frying pan, then after you add water, pour it into the pot. Cut the meat into pieces and fry in oil until golden brown.

Chop the onion and add it to the meat and fry a bit.

Add the juice (pasta) and sauté for 10 minutes, season with salt. Pour 1 liter of water, add the pearl millet and cook until the pearl millet is ready, add salt. When the pearl barley is ready, add another 1 liter of water, chop potatoes and carrots, add to the soup and cook until the vegetables are ready. Taste and season with salt. Turn it off and sprinkle with greens. Bon appetit!
